Obituary of Concetta Scavone
South Plainfield – Concetta Scavone, 102, passed away early Sunday morning, August 20, 2023, at home.
Born in Brooklyn in 1921, Concetta resided in Inwood, Long Island and North Plainfield before settling to South Plainfield in 1979.
Concetta, a caregiver her entire life, raised ten children and cared for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Throughout the years, she also “adopted” many of her family’s friends as her own. She enjoyed cooking (her famous meatballs were on the menu at TJ's Hideaway and in the mouths of everyone who walked in her door) and crocheting, as well as watching soaps on the TV.
While living in New York, she and her husband, Rocco, owned a candy store. She also worked for Bisconti Toy Co., Ideal Doll Manufacturing Company, Bargain Town, as well as working as a seamstress. In New Jersey, she was a baker in the cafeteria at Plainfield High School.
She was active as a committee woman for the Republican Club and the The Holy Rosary Society at St. Joseph's Church while living in North Plainfield.
Predeceased by her husband, Rocco Scavone, son, Louis Scavone, and seven brothers and one sister; surviving are her nine children, Marie DeVito, Josephine La Rocco, Michael Scavone, Francine Pauser, Frank Scavone, Dennis Scavone, Rocco Scavone, Steven Scavone and Alison Katla; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 9AM in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by a funeral mass at 10AM in Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield.
Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023, from 12-2PM & 4-6PM in the funeral home.
