James Gaughan, 63, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at his home in South Plainfield.

Born in Motherwell, Scotland, he and his family moved to the United States, and he was raised in Florham Park, NJ. In 1987, he and his wife, Susan, settled in South Plainfield, where they raised their three children.

James started his professional career as a Laborer, however later transitioned to Dock Building as he worked for the Dock Builders Union, Local 1556, out of New York.

Outside of work, James cherished his time outdoors; he could often be found either hunting or fishing. Above all, it was time spent with his grandchildren that meant to most to him.

Predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Mary Gaughan, and sister Patty Sommo, he leaves behind his wife, Susan and his three children, Samantha and her husband James Alexander, Jamie and her husband Doug Dietzold, and Timmy and fiancée Rachel Possanza. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, James, Emerson, Callie, Greyson, and Jack, his sister Marie Kurzeja, and brother-in-law Pete Sommo, along with a host of extended relatives and friends.
