Obituary of Donna M. Egan
South Plainfield – Donna M. Egan, 67, passed away suddenly on Monday, September 18, 2023 at JFK Medical Center in South Plainfield.
Born in Newark to the late Filomena and Dominic Cusanelli, Donna resided in Old Bridge for a short time before settling to South Plainfield where she was raised and subsequently raised her children.
Donna attended Rutgers University and received a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. She started her teaching career as a substitute teacher in the South Plainfield School District. After a few years, she decided to take advantage of the alternate route program and received her teaching degree in English. Donna retired from South Plainfield High School in 2022 after 25 years of devoted service.
She enjoyed spending her time at the South Plainfield Community Pool in the summer months as well as reading and watching movies. She also enjoyed attending musicals.
Surviving are her husband of 46 years, Thomas Egan; three children, Christopher Egan and his wife Nicole Sutherland, Ryan Egan and his wife Janis Munz and Kaitlin Spayder and her husband Christopher, and three siblings, Dominic Cusanelli and wife Diana, Maria Cusanelli and husband Steven Thoman, and Michael Cusanelli and wife Alice Shiao.
She will also be missed by her four grandchildren as well as her nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.
Family and friends may gather on Friday, September 22, 2023 in the South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Avenue South Plainfield NJ 07080 from 5-8PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Donna’s memory to a charity of one’s choosing.
