Obituary of Maria Rocco
South Plainfield – Maria Rocco, 89, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ.
Born in Casoria, Italy, Maria grew up in Italy, and came to the United States in 1955 settling in Fanwood, where she started her family with her late husband Dominick. She later relocated to South Plainfield, where she has been a longtime resident.
Maria enjoyed watching games shows, particularly Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and The Price is Right, and taking care of her flowers, real and fake. Above all else, it was her family that meant the most to her. Caring for and helping raise her grandchildren, and spending any amount of time with her children, were the moments she cherished the most.
Predeceased by her husband Dominick Rocco and four sisters, Maria is survived by her two children, Tony Rocco and his wife, Susan, of Neptune, NJ, and Anna Maria Kearney and her husband, John, of South Plainfield. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Tara, Diana, Justine, Stephanie, and Emily, her eight great grandchildren, brother Maurizio Persico, and a host of extended relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at the McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funeral, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ, on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 6 PM to 8 PM.
A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart RC Church, 149 South Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ, on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 10 AM. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home beginning at 9 AM.
Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 300 Berckman Street, Plainfield, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the Rocco family has asked that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in Maria’s name.
