Obituary of Ray S. Thompson

South Plainfield – Ray S. Thompson, 72, passed Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at JFK Medical Center in Edison.

 

Born in Plainfield, Ray resided in Ohio with his late wife, LeeAnn, a few years before settling to South Plainfield.  Retired from Aramark, Ray’s devotion was to his church, First Presbyterian Church of Dunellen where he served as an Elder and served on other Boards of the Church.  

 

A history buff, Ray enjoyed touring National Military Parks such as Gettysburg as well as areas in Lancaster and the Great Lakes.  He also enjoyed collecting and painting metal military collectibles.

 

Ray is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Voorhees) Thompson.  He will also be missed by his four children, Rachel Schliech, Sarah Seiz, Ryan Thompson and Jessica Diasodse; siblings, Beth Swider, Kevin Thompson, Marty Thompson and Bobby Thompson; step children, Bonnie Lipka, Susanne Dodge, Jamie Grigal and Bobbie Huff as well as his grandson, James Briggs who was like a son to him and his additional grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

All services will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023 in the First Presbyterian Church of Dunellen, 218 Dunellen Avenue, Dunellen NJ 08812 beginning with a visitation at 10AM. Funeral services will begin at 11AM.

 

Cremation will be held privately.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society
