Obituary of Norman E. Mohwinkle
Edison, NJ – Norman E. Mohwinkle, 82, passed away on January 3, 2024 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born in Elizabeth, “Butchie” as everyone knew him, lived in Linden until 1961 and then settled to Edison until his death.
He was a truck driver for Standard Oil in Linden. Over the years, Standard Oil changed names to Esso, Exxon and Exxon/Mobile and throughout all the changes; Butchie was a member of the One Million Mile Club, Two Million Mile Club and the Three Million Mile Club. In 1977, 1987 and 1995, Butchie was recognized for his Excellence in Safety. He was also an avid sports fan, having a love for the NY Yankees and NY Giants.
Butchie will be remembered as a welder, car enthusiast, over-all mechanic, collector of tools, wood worker and the most important; husband, father, brother, cousin and uncle.
Predeceased by his son Norman M. Mohwinkle and by his brothers; Joseph, Bernard and Douglas, Butchie leaves behind his loving wife Audrey, sister Patricia Mohwinkle of Avenel, aunt Eileen T. Wans of Edison, uncle Samuel Graham and his wife Betty Jane of Forked River and by his nieces, nephew and cousins; Carolyn Decotiis, Cara Voutsas and her husband Peter, Chester S. Wans, Eileen Matarazzo and Charlene Applegate.
Visitation will be held at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 from 1pm until 4pm and on Thursday, January 11, 2024 beginning 9:00am.
Funeral services will begin 9:30am in the funeral home on Thursday, January 11, 2024 followed by a 10:00am funeral mass at Sacred Heart Church in South Plainfield. Norman will be laid to rest in the family plot of Hillside Cemetery located in Scotch Plains.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Butchie’s name sent to the Edison Animal Shelter would be appreciated.
