Obituary of Agnes DeNicola

Please share a memory of Agnes to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dunellen – Agnes DeNicola (nee O’Reilly), 90, passed away peacefully on  Friday, February 16, 2024 at JFK Medical Center in Edison.

Born in Claddaghduff, County Galway, Ireland to Eugene and Ellen (nee Coyne) O’Reilly, Agnes immigrated to the United States when she was 17 and lived with her sister Eileen in Jersey City.  Shortly after, she was introduced to her late husband John by her cousin and the two married in 1956.   After living in Jersey City and starting their family, they later moved to Metuchen and then to Dunellen where they raised their three children. After retiring to Toms River for several years,  Agnes and John moved back to the area so they could be closer to their grandchildren. In recent years, Agnes has been lovingly cared for by her family while she enjoyed spending time with them in their homes.

Along with two of her sisters, Agnes was a member of the Brunswick Shamrock Club for many years and enjoyed attending Irish dances and parades with many of her Irish friends. She also spent many years in the Irish Catskills attending festivals, cooking daily meals for anyone that showed up, and gathering at Irish pubs for traditional sessions of music and dancing. She often returned to Ireland over the years to visit her cherished sisters and their families.  Agnes also thoroughly enjoyed all of the daily telephone calls between her and her sisters and the incredibly close bond they all shared together. Agnes loved having fun and she will be remembered for all of the wonderful times she had with her family and friends, her beloved sisters and especially her grandchildren.

Agnes was predeceased by her husband of almost 50 years, John DeNicola, Sr. and her siblings, Mary “Eileen” Yuhas, Michael “Buddy” O’Reilly and Owen O’Reilly.

Surviving are her three children, Patricia Margelis and her husband Teddy of Middlesex,  John DeNicola Jr. and his wife Debbie of Millington, and her daughter Kelly Loffredo and husband Vincenzo of Martinsville.  She will be greatly missed by her seven beloved grandchildren, Jenna, Georgie, Brett, Brittany, Anthony, Riley and Lucas and her two great grandchildren, Grant and Eleftherios. She is also survived by her dear sisters, Kathleen Wilson and her husband Robert of Dunellen, Carmel Laffey and her husband Bernie of Augrisbeg, Ireland and Ann Mulkerrin and her husband Feichin of Claddaghduff, Ireland and her brother John Feichin of London, England.
