Obituary of Douglas C. Routzahn
Douglas Charles Routzahn, affectionately known as Dougie, passed away on February 20, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Born on August 9th, 1955, in Delaware County, PA, he was the youngest of three children to the late Floyd and Rose Routzahn.
Dougie's professional journey was marked by dedication and compassion. From his role as a Director at Integrity House in Secaucus, NJ, advocating for equal pay and supporting peers in achieving CADC certifications, to his later career at Lowe’s as a plumbing specialist, he touched many lives with his personal approach and genuine care.
Outside of work, Dougie was a passionate Philadelphia sports fan and a talented athlete himself, once drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He had a keen interest in coin and sports memorabilia collecting, as well as trading stocks and securities.
On July 24, 1993, he married the love of his life, Dawn Wilson-Routzahn, with whom he shared countless adventures, from traveling to attending professional sports events and family gatherings.
Dougie was known for his suave demeanor and genuine kindness, earning him friendships of all kinds. He adored his four-legged companions, Maxwell and Chester, treating them as cherished members of the family.
He was welcomed and embraced into eternal rest, while still remaining in our hearts, by his beloved mother, Rose “who was his rock” his father Floyd, sisters, Rose Diane (William) Boesenhofer, Elizabeth Hetrick, his niece Barbara Marvel, and his father-in-law, Ronald H. Anderson who did everything in their power to make sure he was taken care of.
Douglas is survived by his beloved wife Dawn, his mother-in-law Barbara Wilson, and his extended family, including his brothers-in-law Ronald, John, and Steve Wilson and Rick Hetrick, his sisters-in-law Valerie Stankowitz, Flora Williams, and Tanya (Vincent) Chiles and his ex-wife Peggy Routzahn, as well as numerous nephews, nieces and a wide circle of close friends.
In Doug's passing, his legacy of compassion, loyalty, and zest for life will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Family and friends will be gathering in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080 for the visitation and funeral services beginning at 9:30am on Saturday, February 24, 2024.
Committal prayers to lay Douglas to rest will take place at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076 on Saturday, February 24, 2024 beginning at 11:45am.
