Q: What will you never forget about Josephine?
A: I will never forgot the stories she would tell me about how my Mother met my Father. I enjoy those moments. She was honest and would tell you what’s on her mind and not hold back. Her sense of humor was one to remember too. She will be missed.

Among all of my memories, the one that i could never forget is hearing you call my name from across the street, to go to the store. That is a sound I will never forget.
I will always love you

The Flores Family was lucky to have had the best neighbor and friend. We all enjoyed talking on the stoop as the kids played outside or there was a block party going on. We all looked out for each other. Josephine was unique. Her friendly smile and caring ways made her truly special. Although, she left the neighborhood our friendship remained. You will always be remembered and loved.

Nanny was a staple in our everyday lives from treats out the window to neighborhood watch. She truly left her mark on us. From the moment she met us she treated us like family and Daniel like one of her our grandchildren. She will be missed.

Q: How would you describe Josephine to someone who had never met them?
A: Josephine was a very special and beautiful person. She always had a smile and portrayed her kind heart to everyone, with her words and actions. She was known as 47th street's "Nanny" and lunch lady. Her cooking was fabulous! Her children and grandchildren are an extension of her because they are friendly, funny and caring. Just like her. We will miss you and keep you in our memories forever.

Josephine was more than a sister-in-law; she was like a sister, my best friend, my go to person. We were always there for each other. We would sit in her kitchen, with a cup of coffee, and talk for hours. We laughed together, and we cried together. We both watched each other’s kids grow into loving and productive adults; and start families of their own. I will always remember her laugh and her smile could light up a room. She had a beautiful soul.

A memory I have of Nanny are the times Rachel and I visited with her and she shared stories with no holds backs or filters. She always told it the way it was. She wasn’t your typical grandmother. She will always be remembered and never forgotten.

When I think of Mama Jo the first thing that comes into my mind is her beautiful smile and that she was going to say something that would make me laugh. Not a ha ha laugh… a deep, hysterical belly laugh, that would keep me laughing for days…
Her witty, “colorful “ responses for any given situation were legendary. .
She was All about her family! Fiercely protective of them and those of us who were not related by blood but were accepted as family.
Everyone was welcome at her table .. that in itself was a major blessing …
Mama Jo was a fabulous cook!
Her eggplant Parmigiana…. Best I ever had, hands down. I’m sure everyone has their own favorite,,
I really believe Her secret ingredient must of been the love she put into it..
Her thinking and view of the world was way before her time. She accepted people for who they were, regardless of race, creed, identity or the mistakes you might have made in the past.
She was no stranger to heartbreak, yet, she still managed to wear that beautiful smile & make us all laugh.
I will forever smile when I think of
Mama Jo. Although I am sad that I will no longer be able to see her physically, her life and legacy was always about finding the joy in life.
For her, it was her family.. and of course … sharing her inexhaustible
Source of unconditional love!
Love you Mama Jo,
See you on the other side!
Georgia

My favorite memory was Christmas Eve. My mom would take Adam and I to Nanny’s house. I remember it being so loud; a house filled with laughter and love. Nanny always had an abundance of food. We would gather together and the parents would sit and talk for hours, while all of us children would open gifts and play together. It was such a joyous time. Memories I will always cherish.

I will never forget the "hours" of conversations ❤️ Our outings, the one time I took you out alone shopping and you fell! You were fine and we laughed. Whenever you returned from being out you always said "there's no place like home"
I hope they have Italian bread up there ❤️
Rest easy, enjoy the loved ones you haven't seen in awhile. Lisa and I will continue to celebrate you in so many ways ❤️
Every time she washes her car I will look up and know you and I are laughing together. Xoxox much love Joy

Every wrinkle has its own storyline
A road map through heartache and despair
A journey across time
Each ache a symbol of the agony of hard work
Each scar a badge of honor from her battle for an improved life
The daily struggle to survive and protect
The child's laughter, her will to fight on
With no regret
Bright eyes now dim
Joyous laughter now silent
Warm heart frosted over
Colorful soul now darkened
Pilar of life now weakening
A life's work fading...
My mother's love knows no boundaries
My mother's love knows no weakness
My mother's love is the birth of my being
My mother's love lives on in me......
I love you forever Ma.....Lisa

My favorite memories are of the Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners, at Nanny's house on 47 street. I remember always having a full table of food and chairs all around the tables filled with people. There was always rice and gandules, either lasagna or baked Ziti, and ham or chicken. This is something I always missed as we got older, this is something I would love to continue in my own life once my kids get older and start families of their own.

You held, loved, & nurtured my child with all of your heart. You loved me too. I know it has been a while but I remember you getting ready for bingo & my child thought you were going *******- you'd say yes & we would smile. I remember my child would sit next to you & say "nanny, let's curse" - you would laugh & say "let's wait till mommy goes upstairs ". My child loved being with you, weather you were cooking or watching TV. Your love is felt & remains in all of us. Thank you Mama Jo.
