Obituary of George Edward Greenwald
George Edward "Eddie" Greenwald, 91, passed away on August 5, 2024, in Jacksonville, FL. Born on August 14, 1932, in Jersey City, NJ, Ed was a pioneer in the computer programming field, beginning his career with Cyanimid and later advancing at AT&T.
Ed proudly served in the Army during the Korean War. His military service was marked by dedication and a commitment to his country, which he carried into his civilian life. Following his service, he became an avid sports enthusiast, regularly playing handball, and was a lifelong fan of the New York Giants. Ed also dedicated many hours to teaching children the fundamentals of baseball and softball, sharing his passion for sports. He was a life long member of the Piscataway Elks and the VFW along with the American legion
He was a devoted family man, preceded in death by his wife Audrey Greenwald, and Alexandra Greenwald, his son Gregg Greenwald, and his stepdaughter Denise Zydzik. He is survived by his children Charlie Greenwald and wife Diane, John Greenwald and wife Karen, Michael Greenwald and wife Karen, Paul Greenwald and wife Joan; stepchildren Mark Zydzik and wife Dawn, Deborah Andrews and husband Michael, Dawn Arrington, Danielle Zydzik, Dina Medina; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Ed was a graduate of St. Peter's University, which laid the foundation for his successful career. His hobbies included playing golf, basketball, and enjoying time outdoors, whether swimming in his pool or playing cards.
A viewing will be held at Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Rd, Piscataway, NJ 08854 on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 6pm to 8pm.
An Elks service will be held in the Piscataway Funeral Home on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 7:00 pm
Eddie will be laid to rest on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 10:30 am at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway.
