Obituary of James Michael Delaney, Jr.
James Michael Delaney, Jr. of Warren, NJ was born on Friday, March 5, 1948 to James Michael Delaney, Sr. and Anne Louise (Rhatican) Delaney. He grew up in Middlesex, NJ and graduated from Middlesex High School in 1966. He attended Seton Hall University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in History (1970). He served in the New Jersey National Guard and worked for Otis Elevator. Following his time with Otis, he went to work at Mike Kerwin’s Tavern in Middlesex where he served the local community for nearly 40 years.
Jimmy, or “Jimbo” to his childhood and high school friends, was well known in the community. As an avid golfer, he would frequently run into friends and customers on golf courses around New Jersey as well as destinations including Ocean City, MD, Palm Springs and Carmel, CA and Tucson, AZ.
He was an ardent NY Giants and Yankees fan and attended Giants games dating back to the old Yale Bowl in the 1970’s. He was a voracious reader and sports enthusiast with an encyclopedic memory of PGA, MLB and NFL trivia. A great storyteller, he had a strong sense of community and the need to “give back”, serving on the Zoning Board and Redevelopment Committee in Middlesex and was a Past Exalted Ruler (circa 1984-85) of the Middlesex BPOE Lodge #1488.
