Obituary of Elizabeth Cortazzo
Elizabeth “Betty” Cortazzo passed away peacefully at home on September 14, 2024.
Born in New York City, NY on January 2, 1940 to Frank and Antoinette Recifo, Betty and her family moved to South Plainfield where she was a 1958 graduate of South Plainfield High School. Betty went on to earn her nursing aide certificate from Middlesex County Vocational Technical School and settled Edison where she raised her two children.
Betty worked as a nurse’s aide at Roosevelt Hospital in Edison for over 30 years. She was always known as the life of the party and loved to dance and be around people.
She was predeceased by her parents, and her two brothers, Charles and Louis Recifo. Betty is survived by her sister Rose Viehman, brother Frank Recifo and his wife Marie and sister-in-law Sue Recifo, her daughter Michelle Cortazzo of Raleigh, NC, son Mark Cortazzo and his wife Adrienne of Warren, grandson Greg Cortazzo, granddaughter Sophia Cortazzo and her husband Jayson Szabo, and her many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 10AM in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield NJ 07080 gathering will being at 9:30AM.
Burial will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.
Family and friends may gather on Thursday, September 19, 2024 from 4-7PM in the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in Betty‘s name to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital.
