Obituary of Elizabeth Mernagh

Elizabeth (nee Christel) Mernagh, 98, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Southern Ocean Center in Manahawkin, NJ.

Born in Elizabeth, NJ to the late Andrew and Sophie (nee Rappe) Christel, Elizabeth was raised in Linden, NJ and started her family here, marrying her late husband, Eugene, in 1945. The two later settled in Piscataway, NJ in 1968, until 2014, when she made a final move to Manahawkin, NJ, where she has lived since.

For 15 years, Elizabeth worked as a meat wrapper for the Edison A&P, then worked for Kelly Temp. Agency as a Duplicator, in 1983, she was sub-contracted to Union Carbide. In 1997, she was transferred to Archer Management Services, but remained at Union Carbide until her retirement in 2001.

While living in Piscataway, Elizabeth was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. Post 7504.

Predeceased by her husband Eugene T. Mernagh; son, Lawrence Mernagh; and grandson, John Conry, Elizabeth is survived by her children, Eugene A. Mernagh, Elizabeth Conry, Linda Mernagh, and Thomas Mernagh and his wife Nancy; grandchildren, Marylar Mernagh, Michile Mernagh, Nicole (Jesse) Nietzer, and Craig (Jenny) Mernagh; great grandchildren, Candy Forsythe, Amanda Darrow, Caden, Anna, Parker, and Wyatt; and great great grandchildren, Peyton, Luca and Sophia. She will also be missed by her niece Nancy, along with a host of extended relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held at the Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway, NJ, on Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 12 PM to 3 PM.

A funeral Mass will be held at the Church of St. Matthew the Apostle, 81 Seymour Ave, Edison, NJ, on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 9:30 AM. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home prior to mass, beginning at 8:15 AM.

Burial will follow at Resurrection Burial Park, 899 E. Lincoln Avenue, Piscataway, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the Mernagh family has requested that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in Elizabeth’s name.
