Obituary

Kathleen Rogers Bartley – 1939 to 2024

Kathleen Rogers Bartley, daughter of the late Annie Rogers (née Gold) and Albert Rogers, Sr., departed this earthly life on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 5:10 p.m.

The eldest child of four, sister to Vertell Robinson, Margaret Bryant, and Albert Rogers, Jr., Kathleen was born in New York on July 20, 1939.  She was raised in a Christian home filled with love and resilience.

She was united in marriage on June 24, 1961, to the late Herman Bartley, Jr. of Brooklyn, NY.  To this union were born two devoted daughters: Mrs. Shawn Bartley Myricks of Piscataway, NJ and Ms. Kellie Bartley of Zion Crossroads, VA.

Kathleen was a daughter dedicated to her beloved parents; cherished by her siblings; deeply loved by her daughters; and honored by her son-in-law, Mr. Juan Tracy Myricks, and her precious grandsons: James Christian Myricks and Brandon Jermaine Myricks.

Kathleen graduated from Glenmore Junior High School in Brooklyn, NY, and Franklin K. Lane High School in Queens, NY with bookkeeping and secretarial skills.  Before entering the workforce as a retail clerk in the famed Wannamaker’s clothing store on Wall Street, she was a stay-at-home Mom raising her two daughters.  She went on to work for New York State in various positions with progressive responsibilities, and after more than 25 years, eventually retired as a supervisor from the Department of State in Manhattan, NY.

Kathleen loved gardening, Lou Rawls, attending services and activities at her local church, and traveling with her family and friends before illness limited her mobility; and she enjoyed the daytime soap operas from the early days: Search for Tomorrow, As the World Turns, Guiding Light, The Edge of Night; and most recently The Young & the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful.

In addition to her devoted daughters, Kathleen leaves to mourn her passing:

  • Siblings: Vertell, Margaret, and Albert Jr. (and his wife Ronella)
  • Son-in-Law: Juan Tracy Myricks
  • Grandsons: James Christian Myricks (and his wife Melissa); Brandon Jermaine Myricks (and his wife Shalini)
  • Nephews: Ronald Jeffrey Robinson (and his wife Tracy); Henry Hull Robinson (and his wife Abbie); Donald Mark Bryant (and his wife Carolyn); Albert Rogers III (“AJ”); Timothy Cook; and niece Tamiko (“TT”) Cook
  • Caregiver: Celenia Cepeda
  • and a host of other dear cousins, relatives and friends

                                                                        Lovingly submitted,
