Charles J. Devine, 81, of Middlesex, passed away early Wednesday morning, November 20, 2024, at Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center – Somerset, surrounded by his family.
Charlie was proudly born and raised in Plainfield, where he graduated from Plainfield High School. After high school, he became a proud member of the United States Navy, deploying for 4 years during the Vietnam War.
Charlie, or as everyone called him, Pop, was a baseball fanatic, some of his favorite memories were of being a great player and playing alongside his brother, Jim. He was an avid Yankees and Jets fan, win or lose, he never gave up on them.
Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Charlie became a Mailman with the Plainfield Post Office. He loved his route, and talked about it often, he also frequently talked about all of the changes made to the streets he walked every day.
He soon met his late wife, Janet, and started a family, raising three sons, Peter, Patrick, and Jeffrey. As his children got older, he became a loving grandfather, “Pop Pop”, to five grandchildren, Trevor, Hunter, Taylor, Lillie, and Mason. He will be remembered at the #1 Pop Pop.
Charlie is predeceased by his brother, Jim Devine, wife, Janet Devine, and sons, Peter and Patrick Devine. He will be deeply missed by his son, Jeffrey Devine and his wife Jennifer; his daughter in law Laura Devine; sister Kathy; and grandchildren, Trevor, Hunter, Taylor, Lillie, and Mason, along with a host of extended relatives and friends.
