Obituary of Rudolph Edward George Ash

Please share a memory of Rudolph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With deep love and gratitude, we announce that our dear Rudolph Edward George Ash, affectionately known as Rudy, moved on to a place of endless serenity on Monday, January 6, 2025, in Edison, NJ.

Born in Barrouallie, St. Vincent, Rudy immigrated to the United States in 1970, residing in Brooklyn, NY. In 1978, he married the love of his life, Kurl Cottle. After their marriage, they relocated to Fords, NJ and in 1983, they settled in Piscataway, NJ.

Blessed with a brilliant mind with an impressive skill set across many disciplines, Rudy was skilled in many vocations, but he ultimately found his passion teaching automotive technology in school districts across New Jersey. He passionately served students in Middlesex County, Union County, and Morris County school districts, teaching various subjects including Auto Collision, Auto Body, Auto Mechanics, and electronics. His longest tenured role was held at Plainfield High School in Plainfield, NJ.

As an individual whose thirst for knowledge never faded, Rudy enhanced his education through the attainment of professional licenses and certificates. In addition to his teaching license, Rudy held several certifications including but not limited to Certified Master Technician (A.S.E), Certified Welding Instructor (Hobart School of Welding), Advanced Painter (Sherwin Williams), A+ Professional Support, and NOCTI Occupational Certificate.

An active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Piscataway, Rudy served in ministry as a part of the Gospel Choir. With a wide array of interests, Rudy found happiness in embracing many different hobbies including writing poetry, collecting and working on cars, cooking, traveling, and photography of nature. In addition to his own interests, Rudy was always eager to lend a helping hand, especially with home improvement and car repair projects. As a generous person with a heart full of kindness, he found joy in helping others.

Rudy is predeceased by his parents Reginald Ash and Mable Doyle; wife, Kurl Ash; sister, Sonja Ash; and granddaughter, Alori.

Holding Rudy’s love and memory close are his devoted children: Earsdale Ash Sr. (Marcia), Rochelle Ash (Eugene), and Janelle Callaway (Tiriq). He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Earsdale Jr., Miles, Saya, Amari, Amir, and a grandchild on the way; along with a host of siblings, a large extended family, and friends near and far. Rudy’s kind disposition and legacy of love will live on and continue to inspire those left to cherish his memory.

To honor Rudy’s memory, a visitation will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 485 Hoes Lane, Piscataway, NJ, on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 2 PM to 4 PM. Funeral services will begin at 4 PM.
