Obituary of Bertha Hylkema

Belvidere, NJ - Bertha "Happy" (Millovich) Hylkema, 91, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. Born in South Plainfield to the late John and Ann (Bubriak) Millovich, Happy was a longtime resident of South Plainfield before settling to Belvidere in 2011. Happy retired from Conhagen, Inc., formerly of South Plainfield, where she worked as a bookkeeper. Active within The Church of the Sacred Heart, she was a longtime parishioner and enjoyed her time with the choir, working the festivals as well as the after- school programs. Happy loved baking, cooking, and arts and crafts; especially sewing, knitting, and arranging floral pieces. Predeceased by her husband Frederick in 1991 and by seven siblings; Happy leaves behind her children; Peter and his wife Debbie of Westampton, John and his wife Janice of Washington and AnnMarie Provenzano of Tinton Falls, her grandchildren; Elena Martiak and her husband Erick, Rossi Provenzano, Chris, John, and Jennifer Hylkema and her fiancé Matthew Oostdyk, three great-grandchildren; Caterina, Isla, and Brenna, and her sister Margaret "Midge" DeRose of South Plainfield. Visitation will be held in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 1-3pm and 6-8pm and on Friday, February 23, 2018 beginning 9:30 am. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 10:00 am with burial following at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield. In lieu of flowers, donations sent to the American Heart Association would be appreciated.
