Evelyn Holi Lillo, 86, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2018 at The Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains.
Evelyn was born on April 21, 1931 on Staten Island to the late Frank and Eva Holi. She grew up in North Plainfield, graduating from North Plainfield High School, where she met her husband, Peter Lillo. They lived in Evansville, Indiana before settling in South Plainfield in 1962.
Evelyn worked at Helen Elliot Candy, Bell Laboratories, and for 30 years, drove a small bus for the South Plainfield Board of Education. She truly loved getting to know the children in her care, and formed lasting friendships with her co workers. She also enjoyed exercise, gardening, needlework, knitting, crocheting and was an avid reader. She was a loyal sports fan, favoring the Mets, the Giants, and Rutgers. She took great pleasure in attending her grandchildren's numerous activities, concerts, sports, competitions and graduations.
In recent years, she looked forward to her Monday Morning Crochet group and other activities at the Senior Center. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, she was very fond of her fellow members and looked forward to all their events.
Her husband, Peter Lillo, her parents, Frank and Eva Holi, and her dear brother Robert Holi predeceased Evelyn. She is survived by her four children, Peter (Penny) Lillo, Nancy (James) Schofield, Suzanne (William) Butrico, and Diane (Walter) Zychlinski. Her nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren, who she cherished, will dearly miss her. She also leaves behind dear nieces and nephews and their spouses, and her sister in law and brother in law, Dale and Victoria Strand. For the friends she leaves behind, your friendship meant the world to her, you were her family too.
