Garret Hopper Striker died on April 16, 2018, in Peggy's House hospice, Scotch Plains, NJ, after an extended illness. He was 77 years old. Born in New York City, Garry was the oldest of four children. After growing up with his family in New York, Germany, Louisiana, Texas and Massachusetts, he joined and served with the US Army in Korea. Garry then spent the rest of his life in New Jersey, the home state of his mother and his extended family. He worked his whole career in the aviation industry, for New York Airways helicopter service, Trump Air, World Airways, and then for more than 30 years for United Airlines. He was proud of his Striker family's long New York history, dating back to New Amsterdam of the 1650s. He was named after his great-great grandfather, Major Gen. Garret H. Striker, who fought to defend New York City from the British in the War of 1812. Garry was an outgoing person, who loved conversation and telling stories, good food and a night out with friends. Garry was a loyal and loving son to his parents, Joseph Striker and Beatrice Smith Striker. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Sally Deock and Joan Veceione. He is survived by his daughter Kim Striker Gorczynski, his grand-daughter Katie Gorczynski, his brother James Striker, three nieces and a nephew. Garry was laid to rest in Trinity Church Cemetery in upper Manhattan, with his parents and ancestors.
