South Plainfield - Dorothy Rotola, 91, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018 in Ashbrook Nursing Home in Scotch Plains. She was born in Manville, NJ to Walter and Sophie (nee Zaludek) Birnirt. Dorothy resided in South Plainfield for many years. A communicant of Sacred Heart RC Church, she was involved in many community groups including most recently the Red Hats. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and traveling. Predeceased by her husband, Merritt Rotola, who died in 1993; sister June Gonzol and brother Fred Birnirt; surviving are her sister, Barbara Varone and husband Rick of Florida; nieces Kim Carlin of Pennsylvania and Melissa Abboushi of Illinois and nephews David Gonzol of West Virginia and John Varone of Florida. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 9AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by a funeral mass in Sacred Heart RC Church at 10AM. Burial will follow in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ. Family and friends may gather on Monday from 6-8PM in the funeral home.
