Charles M. Danyus
North Plainfield - Charles M. Danyus, 89, died on Monday, February 11, 2008 in the Haven Hospice Unit of Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Plainfield, Charles had resided in South Plainfield for a few years before settling to North Plainfield in 1952. Charles was a long time active member of North Plainfield Senior Citizens.
He began his employment with General Motors in Linden on the assembly line. He later assisted with the training of women during the assembly and tooling at the Linden plant for World War II. Deciding to enlist in the United States Army in 1943, Charles served as a sergeant in the motor pool while stationed in Hawaii. Upon his discharge in 1946, he resumed is career with GM as the supply manager before retiring after 38 years with company.
Charles was a master gardener, landscaping many of the large estates in Plainfield, New Jersey. He also was an excellent woodworker who learned many of his skills from his G.I. bill training. Boxing in his youth, Charles will also be remembered for his talents as a dancer.
His beloved wife, Celeste (Santoro) died in January of 2006. He is also predeceased by his four sisters, Angie Sellino, Louise Mandella, Helen Valentenuzzi, Jennie Rielli & his brother, Henry.
Surviving are his two nieces, Celeste Lloyd & Theresa Wright, his sister, Mary Veltri, his brother, Nick. His brother and sister in law, Mike & Rose Santoro and numerous additional nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080
Interment will follow in St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 from 1-3 PM and from 6-8 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the North Plainfield Senior Citizens, C/O 263 Somerset Street, North Plainfield, NJ 07060.
