Thomas P. McCauley South Plainfield - Thomas P. McCauley, 78, died on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at home after a 5 year battle with alzheimers and heart disease. Born and raised in Jersey City, Tom lived in Weehawken before settling in South Plainfield in 1962. He began his 30 year bus driving career as a Public Service driver out of Maplewood prior to driving for the former Scalera and Suburban Bus Companies in South Plainfield, retiring in 1988. Tom was a family man who loving cared for his wife Barbara of 54 years, his children and grandchildren. His door was always open and he enjoyed helping others in any fashion possible. He served as a foster parent to as many as 13 children of all ages over the course of 19 years. A member of various organizations in South Plainfield, Tom was a life member of the South Plainfield Rescue Squad where he served as a Day Sergeant, South Plainfield Knights of Columbus Council 6203, the South Plainfield B.P.O.E Elks Lodge 2298 and he was also a devout member of Sacred Heart RC Church. Tom had also served in the U.S. Marine Corps. In addition to his loving wife Barbara, Tom is survived by his children; Ginny Butrico and her husband Dave of South Plainfield, Janet Finamore and her husband Steve of Hillsdale, Carol McCauley of Greensboro, NC, James McCauley of Yuma, CO, Thomas McCauley and his wife Gulia of Win Gap, PA and Robert McCauley and his wife Amy of Simpsonville, SC, his brothers; James of Maryland and Edward of New York, his grandchildren; Sara, Christina, Michael and Corinne Finamore, David, Alyse and Kelly Butrico, Samantha and Robby McCauley, Dominica, Ryan and Ethan McCauley, and Felicia, Elizabeth, Kristine, Steven, Justin and Amber McCauley. Also surviving are are his great grandchildren; David Burtico and Joey Martinez. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funeral, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass at Sacred RC Church, South Plainfield. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Embracing Hospice Care, 109 South Main St., Cranbury, NJ 08512 or to the South Plainfield Rescue Squad, 2520 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
