Stephen Prystauk South Plainfield - Stephen Prystauk, 78, died on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at home. Born and raised in Newark, Stephen resided in the Ironbound Section for 76 years before moving to South Plainfield in 2004. A Veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Prystauk enlisted in 1948 and served during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953 before being honorably discharged in 1954. He was a member of the VFW Post # 712 formerly of Newark. Mr. Prystauk was employed by the Archdiocese of Newark as a care-taker for St. Benedict Parish in Newark for 7 years. Stephen was an avid fisherman, camper, and coin collector and he also loved listening to classical music. He is pre-deceased by his son Captain Gary Prystauk of the Newark Police Department who recently died this past November, 5 brothers; James, Michael, Anton, Joseph, and William and by his 2 sisters; Mary Posunko and Ann Storozuk. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth (Krajczewski), his daughter Beth Prystauk - Penevolpe, and by his 2 grandchildren; Brittany and Dominic Penevolpe all of South Plainfield. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and extended relatives including his loving brother in-law Jim Leski of Lake Hiawatha Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass at Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church, South Plainfield. Committal Service will follow in Rosehill Crematory Chapel, Linden. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 2, 2007 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the funeral home. ">
