Nicholas Monticchio "Great grandfather of 9" South Plainfield - Nicholas Monticchio, 95, died on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at Arista Care at Cedar Oaks Care Center in South Plainfield. Born in Queens, NY, Nick was raised in Newark and had resided in the city for 45 years before settling in South Plainfield in 1955. He had been employed as a Mason Foreman for the Damon G. Douglas Construction Company of Newark for over 25 years before retiring at the age of 62. He is a member of the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Union Local # 4 of Newark. A former member of Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church in South Plainfield, Nicholas had worked the Feast of St. Anthony in the corn booth with his family for a number of years. He is pre-deceased by his wife Josephine who died in 1994. Surviving are his 2 sons and their wives; Romeo & Marie Monticchio of Little Egg Harbor and Carmen & Leanna Monticchio of South Plainfield. His sister, Christina & her husband, George Paglia and his brother, Joseph Monticchio. His 7 grandchildren; Raymond, Anthony, Lisa, Michael, Richard, Joseph Monticchio, and Linda Papianni. Also surviving are 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday October 18, 2007 at 9AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass at Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church, South Plainfield. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the funeral home.
