George W. Goodrich
South Plainfield -- George W. Goodrich, 91, died Saturday July 14, 2007 at his home in South Plainfield.
Mr. Goodrich was born in Brooklyn, NY, grew up in Hillside before settling to South Plainfield in 1945.
He had attended Rutgers University and had been employed for 18 years as a Salesman for Coca Cola Bottling Co. of Newark and later in Bridgewater. He was then employed by the Neighborhood Beverages of Edison for 20 years before his retirement in 1978. After his retirement, George worked part time as an accountant with H&R Block from 1978 to 1982.
Mr. Goodrich was an Army Veteran of WW II and had held the rank of Captain. He had participated in the D-Day invasion at Normandy Beach with the 4th division. George was wounded in action 3 times during his tour of duty, and had been awarded the Purple Hearts with two clusters and the Bronze Star.
He and his wife Edith were married for 66 years. Mr Goodrich was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post # 6763 of South Plainfield and a life member of the 4th Infantry Division. He was also a member of AARP, the South Plainfield Senior Citizens, the Disabled American Veterans of Plainfield and the Wesley United Methodist Church of South Plainfield. George & Edith participated in square dancing and ballroom dancing in the Middlesex County area. They both had a great love for South Plainfield and contributed to many organizations.
His brother Robert Goodrich had predeceased George.
Surviving are his wife Edith Miller Goodrich, One Son and daughter in law, George and Marty Goodrich of Bordentown, a grandson and his wife Christopher & Kelly Goodrich of Bordentown and a special little great granddaughter, Abby Goodrich. His brother, Frederick Goodrich, along with many nieces and nephews, he also leaves good friends, Tony & Stanley Makowski and Emma Demarest. A special thank you to Florence Agyei for her care and compassion for the last 8 months.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2007 at 11:00 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals , 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield.
Interment will follow in the Brig. General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown.
Relatives and friends may call the funeral home on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Haven Hospice, 65 James Street, Edison, NJ. 08818 or to Wesley United Methodist Church, 1500 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080
