James M. Wallace South Plainfield - James M. Wallace, 85, died on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born in Jersey City, NJ, he grew up in Manhattan and resided in NYC for many years before settling to South Plainfield 51 years ago. A veteran of the US Navy, he served as a cook during WWII. While aboard the USS Donnel De 56, a Destroyer Escort Vessel, he survived a torpedo attack that occurred 600 miles of the coast of Ireland. As a result of his actions, he was awarded the Purple Heart and numerous additional service medals. James was the type of person who loved to tinker, invent various items and build things. It was only natural that he had been employed by Lockheed Martin in Watchung as an Electrical Technician for many years prior to his retirement in 1988. In addition, he worked as a T.V. Repairman and enjoyed cooking. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Julia (Mironick), his daughters, Linda Seiz and her husband, Tom of South Plainfield and Debra Bradshaw of Middletown. His son, James Jr. of Rhode Island and his siblings, Anne & Michael Wallace both of Manhattan. Also surviving are his dear grandchildren, Kristen, Eric, Steven and his wife, Sarah, Michael, Lauren, Stefanie, Martin and C.J. and one great granddaughter, Layla.
