Louis Grare South Plainfield - Louis Grare, 77, died on Thursday, February 21, 2008 in the Haven Hospice at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Born and raised in Plainfield, Louis settled to South Plainfield in 1968. Louis was a veteran of the Unites States Navy where he served during the Korean Conflict aboard a destroyer, The USS Stribling DD-876, being honorably discharged in 1954. Upon returning home, he joined the Plainfield Police Department where he worked as a Sergeant until 1972. He later worked as a self employed private investigator prior to working for Aaron and Company Plumbing Supply in Piscataway until his retirement in 2003. As a member of the American Legion Chaumont Post #243 of South Plainfield, Louis also served as post commander. He is also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #6763 both of South Plainfield, The Tin Cup Sailors and a life member of the PBA Local # 19. His wife Joan, died in March of 2007. Surviving are his two sons, Mark and Jeffrey & his wife Nancy, his three daughters, Diane Caruso & her husband Anthony, Suzanne Tinsman & her husband, Timothy and Sarah Grare & Michael Bowman. His three sisters, Ellen Pohira, Jo Wolfmayer and Harriet Walters and his brother, Peter Grare. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Joseph, Jennifer and Melissa. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 29, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the South Plainfield Rescue Squad, 2520 Plainfield Avenue ,South Plainfield, NJ 07080
