Matilda McWilliams
Pittstown - Matilda (Day) McWilliams, 88, died on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at the Country Arch Care Center in Pittstown.
Born in London, England, she met her husband, the late Thomas McWilliams during WWII while they were both serving their country in the British Special Forces.
After the war, they moved to Scotland and eventually came to the U.S. in 1948. They moved from Newark to Kearny, prior to settling in South Plainfield in 1962.
While living in South Plainfield she was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was also a Teacher's Aid for South Plainfield High School for over 20 years.
Matilda is pre-deceased by her husband, Thomas McWilliams who died in 2002 and all of her siblings.
Surviving are her daughters, Mabel "Mae" McCourt and her husband James of Florida, June Hays and her husband Robert of Illinois, Elizabeth Ayotte and her husband James of Moore Twsp, PA, and Lynne Danik and her husband Steven of Milford, and her son Thomas J. McWilliams and his wife JoAnn of Brielle. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 9:30 AM followed by a 10:30 AM funeral service in the Wesley United Methodist Church, South Plainfield.
Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.
