Obituary of Silvio J. Donatelli

Silvio Donatelli Colts Neck - Silvio James Donatelli, 88, died on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at the Brandywine Assisted Living Reflections in Colts Neck. Silvio was born on February 18, 1922 to Carmella (Falcone) and James Donatelli in New York City. The family moved when Silvio was young to South Plainfield, NJ and he remained there for most of his life. He married the late Dorothy Saranczak in 1946 and had four children. Silvio or "Slip," as he was known to many, was an avid golfer, maintained his own garden and enjoyed reading. Chief Silvio Donatelli began his law enforcement career as a patrolman in South Plainfield in 1950. After almost seven years of service to South Plainfield, he was appointed as County Detective with the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office in 1957. His elevation to Lieutenant of County Detective in 1966, was followed three years later by promotion to Captain in 1969. Silvio became the Chief of Detectives for Middlesex County on January 1, 1971 and served in that capacity until retirement on January 1, 1987. In addition to his late wife Dorothy Saranczak Donatelli who died in 2004 Silvio is also pre deceased by his sister Theresa Smith who died this year. Surviving are his daughter Diane Donatelli Riepl and her husband Tim of Monmouth Beach, his sons; James Donatelli of Linn, Kansas, Arthur Donatelli and his wife Linda of Sonoita, Arizona and David Donatelli and his wife Tricia of Somerset, 2 sisters; Antionette Fusco of Middlesex and Marie Gregg of Ringoes and by his brother Dr. Anthony Donatelli of Palm Beach Garden, Florida. Also surviving are his 7 grandchildren; Christian, Amy, Kari, David, Jennifer, Winston and Sydney and his 4 Great Grandchildren; Tyler, Oscar, Owen, Gunner. Relatives and friends will be gathering on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 10:00 AM for a funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Cremation services will follow privately.
