George Niemczyk Long time South Plainfield resident Edison - George Niemczyk, 83, died peacefully on Friday December 5, 2008 at his home in Edison. Born and raised in South Plainfield, George resided in the boro for most of his life before settling to Edison several years ago. A veteran of WWII, he served in the Navy from 1942 - 1945 aboard P.T. boats in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans before being honorably discharged. George was a familiar person to many around South Plainfield. He was the former owner and operator of George's Cleaners and formalwear in South Plainfield and was a life member of the South Plainfield Polish National Home where he served with the utmost dedication to the club in numerous positions for most of his life including at president for two terms and V.P. . George is also a former member of the South Plainfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #6763 and the American Legion Chaumont Post #243. In addition he served faithfully for many years as an announcer and worker of the Feast of St. Anthony at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. Predeceased by his seven brothers and two sisters, he is survived by his sister, Lee Allerton, sixteen nephews and six nieces and numerous great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 3:30 PM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Visitation will be held Sunday, from 1-4 PM in the funeral home. Committal services will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Way, Memphis, TN. 38105
