Francis P. Cornell
South Plainfield - Francis Patrick Cornell, 81, died on Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Elizabeth on February 21, 1926, Frank graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Elizabeth in 1943.
In 1946, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 2 years in Europe and in 1949 he graduated from Seton Hall University in South Orange.
After college he worked for The Singer Co. of New York for 35 years holding various positions. His last position was the Director of Real Estate for the East Coast.
After retirement he became active in several community affairs in South Plainfield, serving on the Library Board, the Board of Education as well as the Housing Authority.
Frank was a longtime member and volunteer at Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church in South Plainfield.
Surviving are his wife Marie (Grampp), his 2 daughters; Mary Bladey and her husband Conrad of Linthicum Heights, MD and Catherine Cornell of Scotch Plains, his son; Patrick and his wife Dawn of Marlboro, and his 3 grandchildren; Margaret Bladey and Ryan and Megan Cornell. Also surviving are his 4 sisters; Agnes Cassulo, Frances Bieljeski, Ann Slizewski, and Eleanor Coleman.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 8:45 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield followed by a 9:30 AM funeral mass at Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church, South Plainfield.
Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 4, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the funeral home.
In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the charity of choice.
