Hermann F. Geurts South Plainfield - Hermann F. Geurts, 78, died on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born in the Bronx, Mr. Geurts was raised in Rothenburg, Germany and returned to NY in 1946 residing in the Rosedale section of Queens before settling in South Plainfield in 1957. He worked as a Tool and Die Specialist for MS Tool in Kenilworth, Triangle Tool in Union and he finished his career with Continental Precision in South Plainfield. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Geurts served from 1951- 1953. Known as Mr. "Fix It" in the Joan St. neighborhood, Hermann was an avid Hobie Cat Sailor at the Round Valley Park in Lebanon. In addition, Mr. Geurts loved tending to his vegetable garden, traveling to Germany and Switzerland as well as going for his daily swim during the summer time at the South Plainfield Community Pool. He is pre-deceased by his granddaughter Kyliegh Lynn Guerts. Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years Marge, his daughters; Diane Gersten and her husband Alan of North Plainfield, Susan Wilson and her husband Tom of Whippany and Barbara Strand and her husband Eric of Roxbury, his son Greg and his wife Lisa of South Plainfield and his brother Fredrick Geurts and his wife Ellen of Pawley's Island, South Carolina. Also surviving are Hermann's 8 grandchildren; Briahna and Kelsey Geurts, Emma Gersten, Michael & Randy Strand and Jeffrey, Jocelyn, and Shannyn Wilson. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2009 from 4-6 PM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080 The remains of Mr. Geurts was donated to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University Anatomical Gift Program. In Lieu of Flowers donations can be made to the Kennedy Krieger Institute, 707 North Broadway, Baltimore, MD 21205 or the Charity of Choice.
