Trista L. Moretti
Sgt. Trista L. Moretti, 27, of South Plainfield, New Jersey died, June 25, in Nasir Lafitah, Iraq when her unit was attacked by insurgents using indirect fire. She was assigned to the 425th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team 9 (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska.
Trista was a lifelong resident of South Plainfield, New Jersey. She graduated from South Plainfield High School in 1998 where she was and avid field hockey player and a member of the winter and spring track teams. She excelled at sports and practically everything else she involved herself in. Trista later went onto study at William Paterson University from 1998 to 2000, prior to joining the army.
Her army career began with basic training in Charlie Company 3rd Battalion, 10th Infantry at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri on June 12, 2003. She than attended AIT training at Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas and proceeded to Fort Benning, Georgia where she completed Airborne Training and received her wings. Trista was stationed in San Antonio, Texas until 2005 when she made the honorable decision to re-enlist and was reassigned to Alaska. After training for approximately one year in Alaska her unit was activated October 2006 and deployed to Iraq. Trista has been courageously serving our country in Iraq since her deployment.
When remembering Trista Moretti, and to all who knew her well, you knew she was one thing: LARGE THEN LIFE!!! She was a loyal friend to all those who were lucky enough to call themselves her friend. You could never mistake Trista's laugh and could her it from a mile away. She went out of her way to make sure she was always there for those who she truly loved and cared for. She had a unique personality and always told you what was on her mind, no matter what. Her honesty and genuine good nature made you want to be surrounded by her constantly and the world seemed a littler colder and a litter darker when she wasn't there with you. Trista loved doing new and exciting things. She would try anything once and definitely did not fit the typical "girl" mold. From bungee jumping to sky diving Trista was always looking for an adventure. She had a true appetite for life and let nothing stop her or get in her way of what she wanted to accomplish.
When you think of her, think of her as OUR BRAVE HERO. Think of her beauty and do not be sad that she is not here but think of the adventures she's having now. We will all carry her spirit and her memory. She will not be forgotten because she is too unforgettable!!!
Trista is survived by her loving parents, Judy and Fred Moretti and her older sister Jennifer.
