David K. George Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather Whitehouse Station - David K. George, 77 passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 peacefully with his family by his side. David was born April 17th 1931 in Newark, NJ. The son of the late Khalil & Mudalaleh George. When David was just a small child he and his family moved back to Ramallah Palestine, where his true and proud Palestinian heritage was established and imbedded in his character. He returned back to the United Sates in 1947 at the age of 16. Upon his return, Mr. George and his family resided in Summit, NJ. During his high school years, David had his first exposure to the rug business, an exposure that would someday lead to his family legacy. During those early years he worked in the rug business for the Hamrah Family. In 1950, David, his father and two brothers purchased the Rug business from the Hamrah Family. In early 1953 David joined the U.S. Army serving for 2 years. After his military service David along with his family, successfully ran the business out of 2 locations. In 1969 David's oldest brother George, took over one location and David along with his other brother Fred, became partners in the other location, a full service location which today is known as S.K. Hamrah Carpet & Rug Company. David retired from the business in 1993 and today the business is still owned and operated by his sons Robert and Charlie George. In addition to his work affiliations, David was a dedicated member of the North Plainfield Lions Club District 16D for 35 years holding various positions such as Secretary, Vice President and President. Mr. George and his wife Laila were married for nearly 54 years and together they raised four children, two boys and two girls. David and Laila resided in North Plainfield for 45 years before making West Palm Beach Florida their permanent residence. In June of 2005 David and Laila moved back to Whitehouse Station, NJ to reside with his youngest son and family. He is survived by his loving wife Laila, his eldest daughter Joann of Somerset, NJ, his eldest son Charlie and his wife Carrie and their children Amanda, Charlie Jr. and Michael, of South Plainfield, NJ, his daughter Joyce and her husband Tony Cortez of California, and youngest son Robert D. George and his wife Lori and their children Anneliese and Alexandra. Also surviving are his loving sister Lorice Ghannam of Livonia, MI, as well as various nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his parents Mr. & Mrs Khalil George, his brothers George K. George and Edward (Fred) K. George, and three sisters Suham, Helen Ghanaim and Najla Azzouz and beloved nephew's Jawad F. George and Jerry R. George Jr. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2009 at 10:00 AM from the McCriskin-Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield , NJ followed by an 11:00 AM funeral service at St. Stephen the Protomartyr Antiochian Orthodox Church, South Plainfield, NJ Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2009 from 3:30-8:30 PM in the funeral home.
