Thomas Smith South Plainfield, NJ - Thomas Smith, 78, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2009 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway with his caring and supportive family at his bedside. Born in Scotland, Tom was raised in England and immigrated to the United States in 1954,becoming a proud U.S. Citizen in 1961. Tom lived in Montclair until moving to South Plainfield in 1963.Tom worked as an electrician for IBEW former Local #262. He was a wonderful husband to his wife of fifty years, Jeanne, a loving and caring father to his children; Christine Darge and her husband Ken, and Drew Smith and his wife Lisa. Tom was a devoted Peepa to Jeff Darge and Chloe and Jesse Smith, and leaves behind his siblings; Kathleen Brown and her husband Angus, Anne Downs and her husband Jack, Matthew Smith and his wife Dottsie; and many loving nieces and nephews. Sadly, Tom was recently pre-deceased by his nephew, Alan. His family takes comfort in knowing that Tom is at peace and whole again. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009 beginning 12:00 PM with a service starting 1:00 PM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Family and friends are welcome to visit the Smith Family on Friday at their residence from 3:00 - 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 would be appreciated.
