South Plainfield - John Kusmick, 84, died on Saturday, March 29, 2008 in the Haven Hospice at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.




Born in Brooklyn, John was raised in Yonkers. Prior to serving in the Navy in honor of defending our country during WWII, Mr. Kusmick entered the Civilian Conservation Corps. in Connecticut. Upon his honorably discharge in 1945, Mr. Kusmick moved to Plainfield before settling in South Plainfield in 1949.




A member of the American Legion Chaumont Post 243 in South Plainfield, John worked as a carpenter and in maintenance at Camp Kilmer in Edison for 32 years. Soon after, Mr. Kusmick worked in the maintenance division at the Watchung Hills Regional High School in Watchung for 11 years, retiring in 1992.




John is a member of the South Plainfield Senior citizens and a communicant of Sacred Heart RC Church also in South Plainfield.




He is pre-deceased by his sister Rose Keller who died in 2004.




Surviving are his wife Blanche (Porowski) and his 4 sons; Kenneth Kusmick and his wife Arlene of Metuchen, Gary Kusmick and his wife Joanne of Piscataway, Glenn Kusmick and his wife Theresa of the Poconos, PA, and Jeffrey of Franklin Park. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren.




Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 10:45 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield followed by a 11:30 AM Funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield.




Interment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.




Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the funeral home.
