Richard "Dick" O'Brien South Plainfield, NJ - Richard "Dick" R. O'Brien died on Sunday, January 24, 2010, at his home with his family by his side. Dick was born in Minneapolis, MN to the late Raymond and Hazel (Clemmer) O'Brien. He graduated from Rahway High School where he met his beloved wife, the late Mildred (Nadler) O'Brien. They settled in South Plainfield where they raised their family in 1956. Dick faithfully served his country during the Korean War as a proud United States Marine. He was the owner of Allstate Carpet Service installing carpet for Huffman Koos of Rahway. Dick is a long time member of the American Legion, Chaumont Post #243 where he made many life long friends over the years. He was also a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in South Plainfield. Besides his parents and wife, Mildred, Dick is predeceased by his brother Jerome and brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Dorothy. Dick is survived by his loving children Diane Herriott (Billy) of South Plainfield, Nancy Krauszer (Jeffrey) of Mantoloking, and Michael O'Brien (Annette) of South Plainfield; grandchildren, Brielle (Anderson) Fredericks and her husband Jonathan, Caitlin, Paige and Tyler Herriott, Kate, Kelley and Mackenzie O'Brien, Alyssa, Cara and Michael Capone, and Kurt, Tara and George Krauszer. Dick also has 2 great-grandchildren, Collin and Shane Fredericks. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Joan O'Brien and brother-in-laws Lawrence Nadler (Dolores) and Robert Nadler (Sarah), along with many extended family and friends from the American Legion. Funeral services will take place on Friday, January 29, 2010 beginning 10:00 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by burial in Rahway Cemetery located in Rahway. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday, January 28, 2010 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations sent to the American Legion, Chaumont Post #243, Oak Tree Road, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 would be appreciated.
