South Plainfield - Albert J. Giunta, 92, died on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center, Haven Hospice Unit in Plainfield .
Born in South Plainfield, Al was a lifelong resident on the community.
An Army Veteran of WWII, Al was deployed from Fort Dix in July of 1941. During his tour he was a Half Track Driver and served in the Philippines, Rome, and other areas of Italy before being honorably discharged in 1945.
Al had been a hairdresser locally for many years, working with his family and later worked for Chelsea Fan & Blower in Plainfield and then Northeastern Products in South Plainfield until his retirement.
A life member of the South Plainfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #6763, where he served as the House Chairman and helped with the construction of the building. Al was an avid bingo player, a member of the South Plainfield Senior Citizens, the South Plainfield B.P.O.E. Elks and the South Plainfield Italian American Club.
Most importantly, Al was an active and devoted grandfather. He was involved in many of his grandchildren's activities being supportive and giving guidance.
He is pre-deceased by 6 sisters; Josephine Casserino, Catherine La Rosa, Minnie Catanese, Santa Capparelli, Rose Spinelli and Anna Giunta, and by his brother Rynie Giunta.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years Eleanor (nee D'Amico), his 2 daughters; Donna Cannis and her husband Jay of Piscataway, and Alberta Martino of South Plainfield, and 3 grandchildren; Raymond Marsh, Elizabeth Marsh, and Jennifer Walker.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield.
Interment will be in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.
Visitation will held on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made Haven Hospice, C/O 65 James Street, Edison NJ or the National Kidney Foundation of Greater New York, Inc., 30 East 33rd Street, 3rd Floor, New York, New York 10016-5337
