Obituary of Reutilio L. Santaguida

South Plainfield - Reutilio L."Sonny" Santaguida, 81, died on Monday, June 9, 2014 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Sonny was born in Plainfield and grew up in the city's West End section. He graduated from Plainfield High School and went on to attend Rutgers University and Ithaca College prior to settling to South Plainfield. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1961. During his youth and early adulthood, Sonny could often be found assisting his parents at their family grocery; the former Frank's Italian American Grocery in Plainfield. In addition, Sonny had a passion for music and loved to play the guitar. He is predeceased by his brother Thomas and a great nephew Cliff Vail III. Surviving are his sister Rose Vail of South Plainfield and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great- great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 13, 2014 from 4-8pm along with a funeral service to begin at 7:30pm in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Cremation services will take place privately. Sonny's cremated remains will be laid to rest in his family plot at a later date in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.
