Obituary of James H. Mebane

James was born on April 20, 1920 in Greensboro, North Carolina and entered into eternal life on June 19, 2013. A Four Letter Man, he was recognized as an outstanding athlete for Warren Harding High School in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was inducted into the Harding Hall Of Fame in 1964. He attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte North Carolina. James and his family moved to South Plainfield NJ in 1959. After 31 years he retired from The Aluminum Company of America and began a new career working for, and retired from the Middlesex County Vocational School in NJ. James enjoyed dedicating his time as a community volunteer and leader. He was the longest serving member of the South Plainfield Juvenile Council Committee (40+yrs). He was a faithful member of the Scotch Plains Baptist Church for 12 yrs. where he served as a Deacon and on other committees. With the Salvation Army and BJ's he established the "Bread Ministry Program" to deliver baked products to local community organizations. He is a lifetime (67yrs) Mason, Doric Lodge #4 F&AM Prince Hall in Bridgeport. Some will remember James as a volunteer at Muhlenberg Hospital. James and his late wife, Corine, were married for 68, years. They were avid world travelers and enjoyed visiting Spain, Turkey, Hong Kong, Australia, Aruba, The Bahamas, Portugal, Mexico, Greece, Israel, Africa and many more countries. James is predeceased by: His wife, Doris Corine Mebane and his brother, Thomas C. Mebane He is survived by: His two sons, James and his wife Cathy of Hamden Ct. and Pierre and his wife Carole of Walnut Creek, CA; Three Grand Children; Melba Mebane Ifill, Elliot Mebane and Carrie Mebane; One cousin, Marilyn Frender of New York City Viewing will be held from 2:00PM to 4:00PM on Saturday, June 22, 2013 in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ. Funeral services will take place on Monday, June 24, 2013 at Morton's Mortuary, 25 Margaret E. Morton Lane, Bridgeport CT. Viewing Begins at 11:30AM. Services begin at 12:00PM. Entombment will follow at the Mountain Grove Cemetery Mausoleum in Bridgeport, CT.
