Obituary of Thelma F. Schaeffer

Thelma F. Schaeffer ( Lillie ) 88, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Whispering Knoll in Edison.
Born in Glen Ellyn Village, Il. She grew up in Hillside and was a graduate of Hillside High School Class of 44. She served with the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps during WWII and had attended Elizabeth General Hospital of Nursing where she earned her RN degree.
Thelma later resided in Edison for 30 years, raising her family prior to retiring to Dingmans Ferry, PA. with her late husband of 56 years, Herman.
She enjoyed teaching and playing Bridge, being an avid Scrabble player, as well as, spending time with family and friends. Her and her husband where also long time communicants of Sacred Heart Church in South Plainfield.
Predeceased by her husband, Herman B. Schaeffer, Jr., infant son, Peter parents, Lawrence and Florence and a brother, Lawrence Lillie, Jr.
Surviving are six children and their spouses; Paul and Annette of Stokesdale, N.C., Jeanne Dearden and James of Bethlehem, PA., Anne Harkins and Robert of South Plainfield, NJ, Mark and Maryanne of Piscataway, NJ., Mary Jo Nelson and Donald of Shavertown, PA., and Carol Toro of Stroudsburg, PA., a sister, Florence Hatton of WV, twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will begin on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 12:30 PM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
Family and friends may attend the visitation beginning at 11AM - the time of the service on Friday.
Cremation services will follow privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory maybe made to the Alzheimer Association www.alz.org
