Obituary of William J. Smith

William J. Smith passed away on Sunday, December 13th 2015 at Somerset Medical Center. Born at the United States Air Force base in Fairbanks, Alaska, and raised in Jersey City, NJ, Billy settled in South Plainfield 29 years ago. He worked for the United States Postal Service in the Dominic V. Daniels branch in Kearny, NJ, before his retirement. Billy loved hiking throughout various New Jersey state parks with his wife and two beloved dogs, JB and Oliver. An avid Mets and Giants/Dolphins fan, he also enjoyed crossword puzzles, Scrabble, Westerns, and visiting Europe on his 60th birthday. He was predeceased by his father, William F. Smith, who passed in 2014, his brother, Kenneth Smith and his sister-in-law, Karin. He will be missed by is his loving wife, Anita; his two children, Michael Smith of South Plainfield and Alison Smith of Boston, MA; his mother, Stephanie H. Smith, and eight siblings, Janet Luciano and husband Carmen of Venice, FL, Debra Raymond and husband Brian of Cape Coral, FL, Patricia Gasparic and husband Al of Edison, Stephanie Smith also of Edison, Richard Smith of Saddle River, Glenn Smith and wife Pat of Lodi, David Smith of Paterson, and Christopher Smith and wife Dawn of Lodi. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Gathering will be held in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Saturday, December 19th, from 1-4pm with a service beginning at 3pm .
