Elizabeth Kaplan South Plainfield - Elizabeth (Szucs) Kaplan, 92, died peacefully at home in the arms of her round the clock caretaker and daughter Elizabeth Cacciatore, surrounded by her son and by her immediate family and close friends on Friday, July 27, 2012. Known as Betty by her friends and family, Mrs. Kaplan was born in Perth Amboy and resided in Fords. As a young woman Betty supported her country during WWII. She worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" on the production lines building Wildcat Airplanes. In October of 1938 while working at the former Cornell Dublier in South Plainfield, Betty met the love of her life John G. Kaplan. The two were married on Christmas Day 1941at St. Michael's Church in Perth Amboy and immediately following the wedding, John had to return to his military post. Following the war, the two were reunited and settled to South Plainfield where they raised their family. A long time communicant of Sacred Heart RC Church in South Plainfield, she worked at the former Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield but the true calling was her love and devotion to her family. Betty will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years John, who passed away in 2007 at the age of 90. Her granddaughter; Deana Marie Cacciatore and her sister and brothers; Regina Patrick, William and Julius Szucs. In addition to her daughter Elizabeth (Liz) Cacciatore of South Plainfield and her son John Kaplan (Susan) of Statesville, NC, Betty is survived by seven grandsons; David, John, Michael, Tommy, Devin, Christopher and Brian, a granddaughter; Dana and three great grandchildren; Tommy, Christopher and Noah. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Burial Park Mausoleum, Piscataway. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012 from 5-8 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to JFK Haven Hospice c/o JFK Medical Center, 65 James St. Edison, NJ 08818.
