Obituary of Anne Yackanin

Shohola PA., Anne Yackanin, 92, formally of South Plainfield, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2013 at her daughter's home in Shohola, PA. Born in Czechoslovakia, Anne came to the United States and grew up in Yonkers. She moved to New Jersey after WWII and settled in South Plainfield where she had resided for over 50 years before recently moving to Pennsylvania. Employed at the former Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield where she assisted in the Kitchen, she later volunteered at the Hospital for over 20 years. Anne was a long time communicant of Sacred Heart RC Church in South Plainfield and enjoyed spending time with friends at the South Plainfield Senior Citizens Building. She also enjoyed gardening, baking cookies and making the most wonderful cherry cheesecake during the holidays. Anne loved spending time with her family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband George, who passed in 1981 and a sister Agnes Peterson formerly of Brewster, NY Anne is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Yackanin, of Shohola, PA, her two sons; Robert and his wife, Karen Yackanin of Somerset, New Jersey, and Thomas and his wife Bonnie of Longs, South Carolina; cherished sister Margaret Herlihy of Yardley, PA; cherished sister Amy and her husband Joseph Proft of Washington, DC; her beloved brother, Joseph Yarina and his wife Ann of Chicago Ill. . She also will be greatly missed by four grandchildren, Michael, Thomas Jr., Steven, and Christine; two great grandchildren, Arianna and Zachary; assumed daughter in-law Kathy Hunt and her son Rusty; her neighbor Walter, and other family members and friends Funeral services will begin on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 9:30AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a funeral mass at 10 AM in Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield. Interment will follow in Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway, NJ Family and friends may join together for visitation on Friday from 8:30AM until service time.
