Obituary of Susan Mendez

Susan Mendez Plainfield - Susan Mendez, 69, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at her home with her husband at her side after a courageous and hard fought battle against cancer. Born in Brooklyn, NY., she resided in the Green point sections and then Carteret before settling to Plainfield in 1977. Susan had worked as Manager in the Domestics Department for the former Sterns Department Store in Woodbridge, NJ until her retirement in 1997. Susan has a great affection for cats and dogs. She has been currently serving as the president of Whiskers and Wags Rescue Group where she has devoted much of her time, made numerous contacts and has a host of dear friends. Surviving is her loving husband Edmund, two sons; Louis Centorcelli IV and his wife Mary and Peter Centorcelli and his wife Kristin, two daughters; Geraldine Heldring and her husband, James, and Denise Sanfilippo and her husband, John. A sister; Janet Mamione and her son, Jonathan and ten grandchildren; Anthony, Danny, Michael, Katherine, Hailey, Paul, Elizabeth, Olivia, Thomas and Samantha. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass in Sacred Heart RC Church, 149 South Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Family and friends may attend visitation hours on Wednesday from 7- 9 PM & Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the funeral home.
