Obituary of James G. Peery

Middlesex, NJ - James G. Peery, 88, passed away at JFK Medical Center in Edison on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. Born in Oak Park, IL, Mr. Peery resided in NJ most of his life. A 1946 graduate of Westfield High School, he furthered his education at Gettysburg College, joined the Tau Kappa Episilon Fraternity and graduated in 1954. In 1946, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in China and Guam. While in college, he joined the ROTC and in 1952, he was called to active duty in the United States Army. After faithfully serving his country, he was honorably discharged as a Second Lieutenant. In 1986, after twenty-seven years of employment, Mr. Peery took an early retirement from Prudential Life Insurance Company. After graduating Kean College, he became certified as a Special Education Teacher. He also worked for the Middlesex Training Center in Woodbridge until 1993. After retirement, Mr. Peery worked part-time at the Venice Avenue Group Home in Middlesex. His greatest pleasure in life was his love of vocal music. He sang for the Opera Theatre of Westfield and for forty years, he also sang professionally for various churches. He was a member of the Congregational Church of Bound Brook. He is predeceased by his parents Harold and Marion (Daly) Peery and by his brother Robert. James leaves behind his wife Bertha (Chris) Peery of forty-seven years; son, James C. Peery of Saylorsburg, PA and his sons, Zackary and Michael of Middlesex; daughter, Joanna Baglioni and her husband Gianluca of Berkeley Heights and their children; Gianluca, Massimo and Guilia, brother Richard Peery of Princeton, sisters-in-law, Lydia Yates of Phoenix, MD, and Lois Peery of Syracuse, NY, brother-in-law Thomas Christensen and his wife Janet of Helmetta, NJ and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place in Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ 08846 on Monday, February 22, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 from 9:30 am until the 10:00 am funeral service. Burial will follow the funeral services at Bound Brook Cemetery in Bound Brook.
