Obituary of Harriet P. Costante

South Plainfield-Harriet P. (Berkowitz) Costante, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at JFK Haven Hospice in Edison with all her children by her side. Born and raised in Hoboken, Harriet settled to South Plainfield in1965 where she raised her six children. She worked in the South Plainfield Public School System for over 35 years as a cafeteria worker. Harriet, a devout Catholic, was a past communicant of St. Joseph's in West New York, and most recently was a parishioner of Sacred Heart RC Church in South Plainfield. Harriet enjoyed reading, socializing, and traveling. She especially loved going to Atlantic City, and was always the life of the party. She was predeceased by her husband Gerard, who died in 1994, and her son Thomas, who died in 2002. Surviving is her sister, Teresa Fuller, along with Harriet's five children Gerard, Mary Knapp, James, Patricia Yanick, and Michael, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday December 7, 2015 at 9AM in the McCriskin Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church at 10AM. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3-7PM in the funeral home.
