Obituary of Robert A. Moench

South Plainfield - Robert A. Moench, 84, died on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born and raised in Irvington, Mr. Moench resided in the Plainfield area prior to settling to South Plainfield in 2001. Robert worked as a water inspector for the former Elizabethtown Water Company in Plainfield and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. A graduate from Irvington High School Class of '47, Robert played on the baseball team for all fours years excelling at the sport. During his senior year Robert batted in the lead off batter all season striking out only once. After numerous achievements and accomplishments during his senior season, all of his dedication and hard work earned him a try out with the Philadelphia Phillys. He was an outgoing and active man and was well known and loved by all who knew him. Robert was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church in South Plainfield and was an active member of the South Plainfield Senior Citizens. In addition, Mr. Moench was an avid Mets and Giants fan. He is predeceased by his wife Helen and his five brothers. Surviving are his son and his wife Robert and Maria Elena Moench of South Plainfield and his three grandchildren; Steven, Samantha and Jessica. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2013 beginning at 9:15am in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield followed by a 10am funeral mass at Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church, South Plainfield. Interment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the funeral home.
