Eugene L. "Gene" Manney Cape May - Eugene L. Manney, 86, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Atlantic City Medical Center. Born and raised in Donny Brook, North Dakota, Gene entered the United States Army, serving his country proudly during WWII as a TEC5 and had served during the battle of Peleliu, Anawangin and Leyte in the Philippine Islands prior to his honorable discharge in 1946. Upon his discharge, Gene resided in Astoria, Queens before settling to South Plainfield where he had resided for most of his life. He later resided in Bridgewater before settling between Port St. Lucy, Florida and Cape May, NJ. Gene worked initially for the former Art Color in Dunellen and then at the Star Ledger and Courier News as a pressman. He retiring from NJ Turnpike Authority in Newark where he worked with the line striping department. He was a life member of the both the South Plainfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post # 6763 and the American Legion Chaumont Post #243. Most importantly, Gene enjoyed his summers at the Seashore Campsite in Cape May with his grandchildren and spending time with his friends at the Savannah Club in Port St. Lucy. His first wife, Grace died in 1992. His second wife, Caroline Krajewski Manney, is also predeceased. Surviving are his three children and their spouses; Linda and Harold Fremeau of Naples Fl., Debra and Jack Russell of Washington, NJ and Robert and Karen Manney of Freehold, seven grandchildren; Kristin Miller, Jake, Brittany and Erica Russell and Robert II, Joseph and Stephen Manney, and one great grandson; Jace Miller. Funeral services will begin on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 9:45 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by committal prayer and military honors at 11:30 AM in the Chapel in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ. Family and friends may attend the visitation hours on Thursday, October 13, 2011 from 5 -9 PM and from 9 AM until 9:30 AM Friday in the funeral home. In lie of flowers donations in his memory have been requested to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517 (www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.aspx)
