Obituary of Gerard J. Byrne

Gerard J. "Jerry" Byrne, 71, died on Monday, August 12, 2013 at home surrounded by his family.
Born and raised in Bayonne, Jerry settled to South Plainfield in 1969.
Prior to working, Jerry studied religious life for three years at the Marist Preparatory Novitiate in Esopus, New York.
After his religious studies, Mr. Byrne worked as a financial manager and analyst for 43 years for the Westinghouse Elevator, currently known as the Schindler Elevator Corp in Morristown.
A Veteran of the U.S. Army, Jerry served our country from 1964-1966.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church and served as chairperson of the Finance Committee of the Feast of St. Anthony for five years. In addition, he was also a member of the Friends of Bill for 24 years.
Jerry enjoyed kayaking, trips to Lake George and was very proud of his Irish heritage.
He is predeceased by his two brothers; Eugene Byrne and Jack Farrant.
Surviving are his loving wife; Carol (Brusati), two daughters; Kristin Byrne and her longtime companion Keith Markussen of Stanhope NJ and Meridith Paulhus and her husband Jeff of Cambridge, MA. and two brothers; Richard and wife Teresa of Piscataway and Robert of Columbia, SC.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 16, 2013 beginning at 10:15am in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by an 11am funeral mass in Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church, South Plainfield.
Cremation will follow privately.
Family and friends may attend visitation on Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 4-8PM in the funeral home.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the charity of choice.
